Fused Glass Art
The artist starts with sheets of glass, makes a design, cuts the pieces and arranges
them to create her piece and puts the final product into a kiln to fire it. The
fusion of the piece can take almost 14 hours. Afterwards, the flat fused piece can
be "slumped" or shaped into a bowl or any other object by re-firing it. All produced
work is dish-washer safe and microwaveable.
CAGLA INSELBAG: ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Glass and color have always fascinated Cagla Inselbag. After a life time of exposure
to fine arts, Cagla's love of glass and color motivated her to begin working with
stained glass. Strength and fragility of glass, rich colors and designs from her
past were all influential in the pieces she created. However, stained glass was
also restraining and traditional, and frustrating at times. When Cagla had an opportunity
to study the technique of fused glass at Glass Furnace,
www.glassfurnace.org in Istanbul, Turkey with Rene
Culler, and later to work with Locartha Kohler at the University of the Arts in
Philadelphia, she became fascinated and invigorated by this process. Fusing glass
provided a sense of freedom and serenity for the artist. Creativity in fusing glass
is continuous and infinite until the final piece is placed in the kiln, thus enabling
the artist to explore her limits. The focus is on the emotion that the combination
of colors and form produces. The end result yields inner peace, harmony and beauty.
